Norma and Russ Ramsey are recognized as leaders in philanthropy through the Ramsey Foundation and their work as community volunteers. Please join us as Norma Ramsey shares her personal perspective on ensuring meaningful and effective philanthropy, insight into involving children in philanthropic activity, and thoughts on the importance of volunteerism.
Norma Ramsey is the Director of the Ramsey Foundation, a private charitable foundation dedicated to children, education, and healthcare. Norma and her husband, Russ, are actively committed to philanthropic causes dedicated to at-risk families. The Ramsey Foundation has funded four-year scholarships for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the National Capital Area and supports Knock Out Abuse Against Women, Make-a-Wish Foundation, the Potomac School, Fight for Children, and the Inova Health System.
In addition to her work with the Ramsey Foundation, Norma is deeply committed to making a difference in our community and is personally involved with numerous charitable organizations. Norma and Russ are founding investors in Venture Philanthropy Partners (VPP), which has invested nearly $70 million in nonprofits in the Washington, D.C. area over the last six years by helping community leaders build strong nonprofit institutions.
In 2004 Norma was awarded the Larry King “Spirit of Life Award,” which honors an individual for extraordinary and lasting contributions in philanthropy. She serves as a trustee of the Inova Health System Foundation Board, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic, the Larry King Cardiac Foundation, Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, and the Potomac School, where as Chair of Buildings & Grounds since 2002 she has overseen the development of the school’s Master Plan and managed capital improvements totaling more than $50 million.
Norma is a graduate of the University of Maryland. She and Russ have four children who share their parents’ philanthropic spirit.
